Kingdom Hearts 1.5 HD Remix Has New Stuff, Apparently!
Go figure! In this week’s issue of Famitsu, the magazine gets a preview of Kingdom Hearts 1.5 HD Remix (try saying that three times fast), which includes PlayStation 3 remakes of Kingdom Hearts Final Mix and KH: Chain of Memories.
Let’s go through the new stuff, shall we? For starters, in accordance with the namesake, expect full HD-ified graphics. Not only will the visuals receive an upgrade, but also character models and textures. According to character art director Gen Kobayashi, “We’ve converted a ton of graphical elements into high-resolution. It’s really been a rebuilding process. The screen’s wider, of course, and the menu screens and such have been revamped to reflect this. I think that people who played the original PS2 version are going to have a really fresh and novel experience with this.”
You can also expect Trophy support, as well as some unlockable PS3 themes that are accessible after beating the game. The game now supports English or Japanese voices, and you can now skip cutscenes, with gameplay that feels closer to Kingdom Hearts II. Much meatier, however, are the inclusion of new abilities. One such ability, dubbed “Combo Master,” allows you to continue combos even though you might miss an enemy once or twice. Summon-based attacks are now their own separate command, completely independent from the “Magic” option. Finally, the 4th command in the command menu has been replaced by Reaction Commands, which appear when it’s possible to perform them, which can be triggered by pressing the Triangle button.
Expect the remix to be released in Japan on March 14. As for other territories, well, we don’t know, but what I do know is I would love Square Enix again if the remix comes out here in the U.S. Xoxo, Square. Xoxo.
