Now that Club Nintendo is closing its doors, it's safe to wonder if this will be the end of the physical reward system. We go over a brief history of some of the rewards granted to gamers from Nintendo Power strategy guides to soundtracks and weigh it against the digitized reward systems.
Indie Arcade #5: 30-Second Voxel Ninjas
This week’s issue of Indie Arcade features a voxel-based FPS, a trippy Escher-esque puzzle game, Ninjas, and the fastest RPG you’ll ever play. Three of them are even on sale!
Ace of Spades
Take the concept behind Minecraft, add a bunch of voxel effects, and twist it into a first-person shooter to get Ace of Spades. Play as one of four different character classes in your typical FPS game modes, such as team deathmatch and capture-the-flag, as well as alternate game modes, including one where the enemy team is full of zombies. You also have the ability to make your own maps to play on, then have fun destroying them. Pick it up on Steam for only $4.99 on sale until March 29th.
Antichamber is one of those rare games that will truly astound you, not because of how amazing it may be, but because of just how strange it is. The only way I could describe it would be to create a 3D environment based on an Escher work and trip balls. It isn’t by any means a linear puzzle platformer. It’s an experiment in open-world puzzle solving that will confuse the hell out of you. If you’re a glutton for punishment like our very own Jason, you can pick up Antichamber on Steam for only $11.99 until March 29th.
Super House of Dead Ninjas
Super House of Dead Ninjas is Adult Swim’s very first flash game to make it onto Steam. It’s definitely one of the more addicting games out there right now. Your goal is to make it to the bottom of a randomly-generating tower, collecting powerups and weapons and fighting tons of enemies and bosses on the way down. It’s very fast-paced, fun, and it’s only $6.99 on Steam (it’s not on sale, but it’s definitely still worth the 7 bones).
You know how RPGs are typically slow adventures with hundreds or random encounters and long boss battles? Half-Minute Hero breaks the mold by only offering you 30 seconds to beat the game before the world goes to hell. Of course, the game doesn’t actually last only 30 seconds, as the things you do and the enemies you kill will constantly increase the amount of time you have left. Pick up this fast and addictive little game for just $3.39 on Steam until March 29th.
