Dark Souls II Collector Edition and Release Date Announced
From Software announced at TGS that Dark Souls II will be out on March 11th in North America and March 14th in Europe for Playstation 3 and Xbox 360.
The extra bit of good news is that the PC version of the game will ship shortly after, getting more attention than the previous entry did.
Talking to Eurogamer, game director Yui Tanimura explained the reason behind the PC delay:
In terms of the PC version, how we make the PC version optimal in Dark Souls 2 we’re still working on what options we allow players to have in order for players to customize the spec of the PC version.
Our goal is to release the PC version in the same window. For the PC version we’re simply saying March – we’re trying our best for PC and console. The reason we can’t announce the specific date is we’re working on more options on how to make the PC version optimal
The first Dark Souls also had a belated PC release, but it wasn’t well worth the wait, a problem they seem to be trying to fix for the sequel. It ran at low resolutions with very little ability to change any settings like PC gamers love. These problems were fixed by fans afterwards, but Tanimura thinks that this won’t be happening with Dark Souls II.
With the first Dark Souls, the development team started work on the console version before the PC version, and because of that there were less options for the development team to make the PC version more optimal in terms of resolution and so on. With Dark Souls 2, the team’s working on console and PC at the same time, so there shouldn’t be an issue with how optimal it will be on day one.
Here’s the new trailer that was shown at TGS.
Also announced at TGS, was the Collector Edition of Dark Souls II, which includes a ’12 knight figurine, a collectible art book, the official soundtrack CD, a cloth map, and the Black Armor Edition of Dark Souls II. There’s nothing particularly special about the Black Armor Edition, it’s just the pre-order bonus, but you get it if you buy the CE anyway. Namco Bandai has yet to release a price, but I expect it to be around $150.
