Fable Being Remade In HD With Fable Anniversary

Today, Lionhead Studios, the studio behind the Fable series, has announced an HD remake of the first Fable game in the form of Fable Anniversary. According to Xbox Wire, this updated game will feature “stunning graphics, almost instant loading times, an all-new interface, Achievements, Xbox SmartGlass support, and more.” The Fable series has seen a bit of a rough patch lately with its previous two releases, Fable III and Fable: The Journey. Fable III featured a similar world as the first and second games, but it was riddled with frustrating bugs that marred the experience. Fable: The Journey on the other hand, while relatively bug-free, viciously implemented Kinect which marred the experience in its own way.

Fable and its sequel are often looked upon as the two better Fable games, and the announcement of the first game’s HD re-release brings a sort of new life to the series. The series has a good chance of showing up again on the Xbox One, and hopefully Fable Anniversary gives players hope for the franchise. Fable Anniversary will also include the additional content added to the original with Fable: The Lost Chapters. One of the things that the Fable series relies on is the ability to shape your hero. Depending on the morality of your actions, your character will change. If you decide to help a townsperson with a task and do everything correctly, the color of your equipment will lighten and a soft aura will envelop around you. Disobey them, however, and horns will begin to form on your head.

The first Fable game was critically acclaimed, so it is not a surprise to see the HD treatment being done to it. Fable Anniversary will be releasing on the Xbox 360 later this year. The absence of an Xbox One release is odd, but development most likely started a while ago, possibly even before Xbox One dev kits were available. Hopefully if this game can perform and sell well, we’ll see a fifth entry in the series in the same vein as Fable and Fable II and unlike Fable: The Journey.
