I have been communicating with Paul for a couple of weeks now and have gotten to know a lot more about Magicland Dizzy and what went into the making of it.
EA’s Next-Gen Titles Will Not Come To The Wii U
It just seems like the Wii U can’t catch a break. EA has announced that they will not be making any next-gen titles, that use the Frostbite 3 engine, for Nintendo’s Wii U. This decision was made after EA saw poor performance with their Frostbite 2 engine. It was decided that they would not take the time or resources to make their newer engine run. It seems that the Wii U just doesn’t have the power that the other next-gen systems are being made to have. This means a major loss to the Wii U gaming market, as well as some expected irritation from Wii U owners.
Many of EA’s core titles, 15 in planning, are going to be developed using the Frostbite 3 engine. This means the Wii U will not be seeing Madden, Dead Space, Battlefield 4, the next Mass Effect game, as well as any Star Wars titles that came out of Disney’s deal with EA. This is very bad news for Nintendo, seeing as how EA makes many games for the “casual gamer” and the Wii U was supposedly going to bring that aspect back into their consoles. What seems even more troubling is that if the Wii U was having problems running EA’s Frostbite 2 engine, then what chance does the system have of running other companies engines that are of equal or more power? Unreal 4? Most likely not. No one wants to spend the time or money making their engines work on the WiiU because they don’t expect their games to sell well based on how the console is doing now. However, the console only seems to be in this predicament because of the lack of good games
available on it. It’s a terrible cycle and it looks like Nintendo is getting the short stick on this one. Only the future will tell if the Wii U will be able to turn things around and succeed with minimal third party support.
