The Collector Editions of The Last of Us: Choices, Choices
With the early access demo for The Last of Us due out on the 6th of this month, I’m sure that many of you are just as excited for this upcoming Naughty Dog title as I am. For any of you who don’t know, The Last of Us is an upcoming action-adventure game from the same guys that are responsible for the Uncharted series on the PS3. In the game you take the role of Joel, a man hardened by the devastating events that occurred during the outbreak of a fungal infection. With him is Ellie, a girl of only 14. Joel is bound by promise to get Ellie out of the dangerous city. Their quest will take them on a journey across the U.S.
There are actually three different editions of this game to choose from.
First and foremost there is the standard edition version of the game that goes for the usual $60. With this copy it only comes with the game itself, which is unfortunate but expected. However, if you preorder any version of the game you are given the Sights and Sounds DLC pack for free which is key no matter which version you get.
Next there is the Survival edition of The Last of Us. With this you get your hands on a full size gorgeous art book put out by Dark Horse. There are over 170 pages of intense art showcasing the post-apocalyptic game world. The Survival edition also comes with The Last of Us – American Dreams #1, a comic book based on the game. The official soundtrack for the game is thrown into the bundle as well as a downloadable voucher for the Sights and Sounds DLC pack. The DLC pack throws in the digital version of the game’s soundtrack, a dynamic theme for your PS3 console, and two PSN avatars showing both Joel and Ellie decked out in some winter gear. They’re also throwing in a Naughty Dog sticker pack. You get all of this for just $79.99. That price is pretty nice considering most collectors editions of games come starting at $99.99.
Finally there is the Post-Pandemic edition of the game. This version includes everything that you would have gotten with the survival edition but it also throws in a big extra treat. Players who purchase this edition will receive a premium 12 inch statue of Joel and Ellie. This statue supposedly retails by itself for a cool $199.99, so snagging this edition of the game for $159.99 is a no brainer for anyone who wants to show off the statue in their collection.
As of right now most online retailers have sold out of the Post-Pandemic versions of the game, so the best way to get your hands on one is to see if there are any leftover on release day. Regardless, both the Survival edition of the game and the Post-Pandemic version are well worth it for any fan.
