There Will Be Microtransactions in Dead Space 3
Following a growing trend of many EA games. Dead Space 3 will be the first entry in the franchise to include microtransactions. Today, Eurogamer reported that the action-horror game will allow players to use real-world money to purchase various resources like materials and scrap parts. Dead Space 3 associate producer Yara Khoury wanted to make clear, however, it is entirely optional.
“You can buy resources with real money, but scavenger bots can also give you the currency that you can use on the marketplace, so you don’t have to spend [real-world] dollars,” Khoury said.
Khoury was unable to reveal how much these microtransactions might cost, but assured that there would be several currency bundles to choose from.
Khoury also emphasives that microtransactions would not allow players to get high level weapons from the beginning. Khoury explained that the materials required to make the highest level weapons are tied to certain points in the game. “There are a lot of weapon parts that are only available to buy later in the game. Unless you’re playing through it again [on New Game Plus],” Khoury said.
Dead Space 3 hits shelves February 5 in the US and February 8 in Europe, and will be available for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC.
