There’s A Good Chance Lightning’s On Her Own in Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII
Thanks to the wonders of the internet, a new trailer for Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII surfaced on the internet about a week ago. In it, we learn more about Lightning’s 13-day campaign to save the world, see her new Ezio-style outfit, watch her platforming in action, and witness an all-new combat system. See it below:
One of the first things fans noticed about the gameplay footage in the trailer is the absence of the series’ iconic party combat system, instead watching Lightning take on enemies alone.
Thanks to the sleuths over at Kotaku, we have some pretty solid evidence indicating that Lightning will, in fact, be alone for the duration of Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII.
The most notable of said proof includes a quote from Weekly Famitsu saying, “In FFXIII and FFXIII-2, there were parties of multiple characters, but this time Lightning is alone,” and even the game’s producer Yoshinori Kitase describing combat as “This time, it’s just Lightning, so it seems like the number of characters you control has decreased, but it still feels like you’re fighting with a multi-character party.”
So what can we expect from the combat, then? According to Kotaku, the combat system will be based on customization through the player picking different styles for Lightning to assume. Styles include different weapons and abilities each with their own uses in combat situations. Successful use of the style system will also allow for power ups to be applied to the equipment and abilities used.
Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII is due to release in 2013. What do you think of the idea of a solo combat system in Lightning Returns?
