Gaming’s Coolest Ninjas
Who doesn’t love ninjas? They’re deceptive, cunning, quick, and deadly, becoming true badasses in their own right. Whether they’re using stealth or force, ninjas are probably some of the deadliest warriors ever to grace the earth. And of course, they’ve been given their dues in video games. Here are a list of the coolest ninjas ever to sneak onto consoles.
RAIDEN (Metal Gear Solid)
With a nightmarish childhood and a tortured past, Raiden is probably one of the darker characters in the MGS universe. After a series of events that go from bad to worse, he winds up finding himself as one of the coolest combinations a character has ever been: both robot and ninja. That’s right. A cyborg ninja.
RYU HAYABUSA (Ninja Gaiden)
One of the brightest and deadliest of the Hayabusa ninja clan, Ryu Hayabusa has been using the ancient art of Ninjitsu to take out his enemies since his early days on the NES. With an array of cool moves and combos, he’s definitely one of the more fun characters to play as. Plus, I could write an entire article about how awesome it is to slice guys up with his katana.
SCORPION (Mortal Kombat)
“Get over here!”
With a take-no-prisoners attitude and a gruesome approach to fighting, Scorpion has established himself as one of the most apathetic and dangerous warriors in the gaming universe. He knows how to fight, be it with weapons or mano a mano, and he’s more than adept with his fatality skills. The worst place to be, however, is at the opposite end of his grappling hook when he impales you with it and draws you in for the kill. He’s all business.
YUFFIE (Final Fantasy VII)
As a secret playable character, Yuffie is one of the cooler secrets about Final Fantasy VII. She’s a tomboy with an attitude, out for vengeance as she tries to get back at the corrupt Shinra Electric Power Company for conquering her home country of Wutai. Armed with a massive shuriken and a wide knowledge of all things fighting, she’s a force to be reckoned with within the Shinobi sphere.
Leonardo leads. Donatello does machines. Raphael is cool, but rude. Michelangelo is a party dude.
They’ve been the coolest ninjas since their humble beginnings, and these teens have received more than their fair share of game time, whether it’s gracing arcades or jumping on the consoles to battle Krang and the Shredder. They’re the ninja turtles, and they’re not just some of the coolest ninjas in gaming, they’re some of the coolest ninjas period.
SILK FOX (Jade Empire)
She’s silent, deadly, and will drop in on you unannounced during your travels within the Jade Empire. She’s Silk Fox, and she’s a deadly mix of secretive and skilled, giving her a true ninja edge that many action game ninjas lack these days. SPOILERS: She’s also the princess, meaning she lives a double life, adding a plus-1000 to her coolness score.
KAGE-MARU (Virtua Fighter)
With a depressing past and a taste for vengeance, Kage-Maru is one of the deadliest characters in the Virua Fighter series. Wielding his lethal knowledge of Jujitsu and taking on all comers, Kage is one of the most genuine ninjas we’ve ever seen in video games.
