Casting News: Iron Man Is Back and Mary Jane Is Gone

Hey all! For those of you who cannot get enough of the comic book movie goodness, we have some good news and some news which may or may not be good.

First of all, it has been confirmed through Marvel’s very own website that Mr. Box Office himself Robert Downey Junior will be reprising his role as Iron Man in both Avengers 2 AND the third sequel to the third highest-grossing film of all time. On the website, Marvel said “‘Marvel’s The Avengers 2′is being written and directed by Joss Whedon, featuring favorites from the first Avengers film and new Marvel characters never before seen on the big screen.” Let’s hope that they don’t mean Quicksilver as his character will have been seen in X-Men: Days of Future Past next year, another whole year before the release of Avengers 2. Could we be seeing the first appearances of certain characters that fans have wanted to see for some time? (I am hoping for Black Panther myself)

In other news, Sony have confirmed that Amazing Spiderman, the latest film in the massive Spiderman screen franchise, will have not one, not two, but three sequels at least. The second film has yet to be released for another year, but Sony are keen to make sure they have their current saga scheduled and casted before any problems come up as it did with Spiderman 4. The Amazing Spiderman 3 will debut June 19 2016, while The Amazing Spiderman 4 will debut May 14th 2018. On the casting side for the second film, the current Mary Jane Watson, Shailene Woodley, will have all of her scenes completely cut from the film so that Peter and Gwen’s relationship has full focus (COUGH* DEATH * COUGH). Mary Jane will not appear until the third film (I wonder why). Woodley has said “based on the proposed plot, I completely understand holding off on introducing (Mary Jane) until the next film” but she also said she is understandably “bummed.”  According to some rumors, she will NOT reprise her role in the third film due to other commitments. Who will play her then? We shall see!

That’s all for now folks.
