Little Mac the Latest Brawler in Super Smash Bros for Wii U/3DS
As always, the official Super Smash Bros website has announced the latest entrant into Super Smash Bros for Wii U/3DS: Little Mac from Punch Out. This is Little Mac’s first appearance in the Super Smash Bros games as a playable character, and he was very heavily speculated to be in this game. May be something to do with the boxing ring showing up in so many screencaps. He was in Super Smash Bros Brawl as an assist trophy as well.
Little Mac made his video game debut in Mike Tyson’s Punch Out!! where he was portrayed as an underdog against a variety of colorful and memorable characters before challenging Iron Mike Tyson himself. Since then, he’s been the protagonist in the Punch Out games, as well has making a cameo in a variety of video games as well as comic books.
While it can only be assumed that Little Mac intends to Star Uppercut Donkey Kong once again, little is known about his move-set besides the fact that the boxer punches. It is also easy to assume that his inclusion may have been influenced by Bandai Namco, though his inclusion was likely regardless of developers. It’s just personal speculation, due to Bandai Namco being no strangers to fighting games and possibly wanting a few characters that they could use for more orthodox fighting styles. The other character that currently seems to fall within the more realistic spectrum of fighting styles is the Wii Fit Trainer, as she is also a regular human(?) character without any special abilities. He’s been a character that many have been requesting, and his inclusion has so far been well received.
His official trailer can be viewed below. The last playable character to be announced was Lucario from Pokemon (article here) and the last assist trophy announced was Ashley from the WarioWare games (article here).
