Zynga Lays Off 300+ Employees
Struggling web game and mobile game developer Zynga revealed that it has undergone a 15 percent workforce reduction. Zynga CEO Don Mattrick, formerly of the Xbox division over at Microsoft, has stated the company is currently implementing a “cost reduction plan”, “which impacts 314 employees.”
“On a personal note, these are extremely difficult but important actions that are helping us drive improved results and create a new foundation for future growth,” Mattrick wrote, in part. “We are saying goodbye to good people and I want to thank them for all of their contributions to Zynga.”
The news of the sizable lay offs comes on the heels of the company purchasing UK developer NaturalMotion, which was founded in 2001. The company developed several games throughout its lifespan, including iOS and Android titles CSR Racing and Clumsy Ninja. The decision to purchase the company was based off of the impressive technology NaturalMotion apparently possesses. The deal cost Zynga around $527 million, with $391 million of that sum paid in cash while the rest was conducted using the 39.8 million of the company’s stock.
We wish our very best to all those affected.
