Don't let the promise of a new Zelda game distract you from everything else the switch has to offer. Here's why you should be just as interested in Arms.
MMO Line of Defense Gets Tactical Mobile Spinoff
I love the smell of a good companion app in the morning. Even better than an app, though, is a companion game. Veteren PC developers 3000AD are hard at work on the upcoming MMO Line of Defense, but in the meantime have been developing their first mobile game, Line of Defense Tactics. Tactics is set in the same world as Line of Defense, but takes a strategic look at combat, much in the vein of XCOM.
You can check out the training video below to get a good idea of what to expect. The first thing you may notice is how clean it looks, considering this is a mobile release. You can immediately see the XCOM influence on gameplay, but a number of smart decision set this title apart. Enemies move in real-time, which gives the game much less of a stop-and-go flow. The action is always running, so it is up to you to keep up with on-the-fly decisions, all while keeping the larger strategic elements in your mind. It looks a fresh take on an often stale genre, and I am eager to get my hands on it.
You can also check out the official website for all the details. 3000AD has also promised limited integration with Line of Defense, which right now consists of accessing the in tel database for information. Hopefully, the cross-promotion will extend deeper, but the way things are shaping up, tactical fans could have something to keep them busy in the near future. Line of Defense Tactics will be coming to iOS, Android, Windows, Mac and PC sometime this year.
