Mysterious ‘SOMA’ Video From Amnesia: The Dark Descent’s Creators
Frictional Games, the creators of the first Amnesia game and the Penumbra series, have released a mysterious new video for something called SOMA.
After watching the video, I’m not sure what really happened, though I’m sure it’s not very good. A woman walks into a room and tinkers with a few things then leaves. After she returns, she starts to move the big machine in the middle of the room. A monitor turns on and it seems as if there’s nothing but static, she eventually gets it working but it doesn’t seem like anything good came of that. The whole time this is going on, she’s in contact with someone, informing them of what’s going on.
I’m assuming that Frictional has released this as a teaser for a new game, but it doesn’t inform you of much behind their idea for the new game. Regardless of the minor amount of information available right now, I’m beyond excited. I have loved all of Frictional’s previous work and can’t wait to see what they do next. This also looks to mix a little more sci-fi into their well-known horror formula, which is fine with me, I can’t get enough sci-fi.
There’s a website up for the video and what looks like more to come, but this is the only real information there right now:
The machine has the appearance of a heavily modified monitor fixed to a massive nest of cables and controls. Machinist Peter Strasky found the contraption during a salvage mission the screen rolled and flickered, but it shut down as it was pulled out from the container.
None of the crew stepped forward to take credit, but the construction suggests since Thabo is unavailable for questioning, the machine’s origin remains a mystery.
Considering the lack of information and the general unease it has started to cause, the machine will be disassembled.
screen lit up and showed distorted schematics. After trying different switches and keys, the oblique levers were found to be torsion attenuation controls which could stabilize the pict revealing a complex set of instructions. The machine is now under quarantine.
AM Engineer Imogen Reed has asked for an exception Special permission granted.
I’d bookmark their page if I were you, seems like it’s going to be a wild ride.
