Smite 0.1.1490: There’s Never Been a Better Time to Play
A few big changes happened overnight in the world of Smite this week. Patch 0.1.1490 brought notable and wanted updates to the epic MOBA. Even though this game is still in beta, the developers are giving it the same all-star treatment a fully released game would be given. For those of you who don’t know, Smite is an online MOBA game. In theory it is very similar to games like League of Legends or DOTA 2, but in practice this game is completely different. What separates Smite from the others is its third person camera view, a lot like World of Warcraft.
As far as the changes go, the first really big one is the addition of a new character. Fenrir is now a playable character available to purchase. The dread wolf is a bruiser character that is very quick on his feet and just as deadly. With abilities to produce large amounts of damage, close distance or escape attackers, and even pick enemies up in his maw and carry them to where he pleases, his presence in the game is a welcome addition and it will surely add new elements of strategy and play styles.
That wasn’t the only big news to come out of patch 0.1.149. Among loads of hot fixes, this marked the first of a series of some major overhauls of character models. In this patch the character Ra got a complete remodel, complete with remodels for most of his skins, which has been begged for since the beta first launched. Ra is just the first to be completely redone, and it seems that a lot of the original characters that have a design that seems a tad lacking will get this treatment in time as well.
The patch also ushered in some new mechanics with both in game items as well as the menu system and buddy list. Active items such as meditation, which used to restore a large amount of mana, now have levels just like purchasing any other item. The effects of these abilities have remained largely the same with a few extra perks tossed in. For example, meditation now also provides health regeneration as well as the mana regeneration once it is brought to level three
If you haven’t already checked Smite out and it sounds like something that may interest you I would say that there has never been a better time. With all of these features implemented to make a better game and a more streamlined experience things in game can only get better.
