Camelot Unchained Now a Reality Thanks to Kickstarter Campaign
Lately it seems as though a large stream of games have been funded by Kickstarter. Another has been added to that list, by the name of Camelot Unchained made by City State Entertainment. Not only did they reach their goal, but they actually made $200,000 more than they originally asked for to reach a total of $2 million. Now that they’ve been successful on Kickstarter, Camelot Unchained will also be receiving another $3 million from private investors, so congrats are in order not only to the developers but to all those who donated to the Kickstarter Campaign. It’s always nice when there’s a happy ending
So what is Camelot Unchained? Well it’s an RvR MMORPG based on large-scale combat. The game hopes to have hundreds of characters on screen at once duking it out for glory and honor. There was a demo that showed about 1,000 characters on screen while achieving an impressive and consistent 200 t0 400 frames per second. Each of those 1,000 characters were individually rendered with about 12,000 polygons and surprisingly without the usual tricks like smoke and level of detail.
Mark Jacobs, the mind behind Camelot Unchained, didn’t have enough words of praise for all the support that the internet provided.
“The last 30 days have been an incredible journey,” said Mark Jacobs. “We believed there’s an audience for a highly focused game like ours, which has now been proven. What we didn’t expect was how our community would come together so quickly and avidly. Not only is our average pledge off the chart, our backers have been just as intensely supportive in other ways, from providing immense amounts of helpful feedback to translating information into four languages (German, French, Japanese and Korean), and more. Our entire team is grateful beyond words for the way they have inspired us with their fervent interest and amazing enthusiasm.”
I know that many people have said this, but Kickstarter is really the place to go to start an independent project. It certainly helped Camelot Unchained become a reality. So, if you want to know what inspired people to support them feel free to check out the impressive video below.
