Square Enix's decision to split Final Fantasy VII Remake into multiple installments may harm the game for one big reason.
Bethesda Teases a New Enemy in The Evil Within
Bethesda gave us a look at a new screenshot from the upcoming Shinji Mikami production The Evil Within today via Twitter. The image features a creature with several limbs and an unhealthy amount of blood spilled all over the floor surrounding it. Also included in the picture is a gun-toting character that can only be assumed to be the game’s protagonist and likely player character. See the image below:
The Evil Within was announced last week alongside a live action trailer teasing various aspects of the game. While it didn’t consist of gameplay or rendered images, the trailer showed us several grotesque and disturbing sequences, including a man with glass embedded in his skin, a grotesque creature taking on the distorted form of a woman, dramatic lightning flashes, and a man with strange affinity for building barbed wire.
The trailer conveys a strict sense of terror and madness akin to some of the greats seen in the genre over the years, including titles such as Eternal Darkness and Amnesia: The Dark Descent.
Mikami himself has said that the project embodies “the meaning of pure survival horror,” which serves as a somewhat promising treat for fans of classic survival horror games, as one of the more common criticisms of the genre of late include that it has lost its way to a much more stripped-down, action-oriented focus.
Bethesda shared some of this information via Instagram and has promised that more details surrounding the game will be released over the next few weeks.
While we still don’t know much about The Evil Within or what its twisted story will entail, it’s safe to assume that the Resident Evil creator is cooking up something horror fans aren’t likely to soon forget.
Keep it locked here for more information on The Evil Within as it is announced within the coming weeks.
