Monster Hunter Online is Not Coming to the West…Yet
Monster Hunter Online is no longer confirmed for a Western release, according to Crytek. A previous statement led fans to believe that the MMO would be making a Western release at some point. The press announcement from Tecent Games, via Crytek, reads:
The Monster Hunter games are known for immersing players in breathtaking worlds where great gameplay and spectacular sights go hand in hand, CryENGINE 3 is the perfect fit got the series, and will ensure Tecent Games and Capcom are well equipped to make Monster Hunter Online the groundbreaking MMORPG experience fans worldwide are eagerly anticipating.
Monster Hunter Online will be developed for the international market by Tecent Games and Capcom, and marks an exciting era for a series that has enjoyed critical praise to match its popularity with players.
People assumed this meant Monster Hunter Online would be making an appearance on the Western market. However Crytek have released a new statement which contradicts this and any other speculations or rumours:
In a press release issued last week, we stated that the upcoming Monster Hunter Online from Tecent Games and Capcom would be released “internationally”. This information was in contrast to official communications from Tecent Games, who only confirmed the release of Monster Hunter Online for the Chinese market at a recent promotional event. As stated by Tecent Games, Monster Hunter Online is only officially confirmed for release in China, and we would like to apologise for any confusion caused by our stating otherwise.
Looks like Crytek got a bit of a slap on the wrist there. This has left fans of the series disheartened, but you have to remember: this doesn’t confirm that it will never be released for the West. Keep your hopes alive somewhere because you might see it on a shelf near you sooner than you think.
