Square Enix's decision to split Final Fantasy VII Remake into multiple installments may harm the game for one big reason.
THQ Selling Darksiders, Red Faction, and Other Franchises
When the downfall of THQ forced the company to auction off all of its assets, some intellectual properties were unable to find any bidders. Huge franchises, like Darksiders and Red Faction, were left out in the cold and couldn’t find a home. Fortunately, THQ has announced that all of the unsold IP’s will be available for purchase in another court-supervised sale.
The biggest franchises up for sale are Darksiders, Red Faction, Homeworld, and MX. Other games that will be included in the sale are Destroy All Humans, Worms, Supreme Commander, and more. Final bids for all of these properties are due on April 15, and the whole process should be completed around the mid-May.
It’s great that series like Darksiders and Red Faction are going to keep on living and not just disappear into the ether like some expected. I’m extremely curious to see where all of these franchises will end up, but I have a particular interest with Darksiders, as Platinum Games has already publicly stated their desire to buy the property. The only thing I can do is keep my fingers crossed.
Vigil Games, the developers of Darksiders, also couldn’t find any bidders in the initial auction, but Crytek recently picked up the core staff of Vigil to create Crytek USA.
