Don't let the promise of a new Zelda game distract you from everything else the switch has to offer. Here's why you should be just as interested in Arms.
Prediction Time!: Captivate 2012
Every year, Capcom gathers the press into a room and unveils everything they have planned for the coming year. The event is called Captivate, and the last couple years have been rich with news, including 2010’s Marvel vs Capcom 3 announcement and 2011’s trio of new games (Dragon’s Dogma, Dead Rising 2: Off The Record, Super Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition). With Captivate 2012 starting today, what can we expect to hear about when the curtain lifts? I have a few thoughts on the matters, so it’s PREDICTION TIME!!!!
ALREADY KNOWN TITLES
-New Resident Evil 6 Trailer
The biggest no-brainer on the list, how the hell could Capcom have an event and NOT include arguably their biggest franchise? Especially after the bad taste Operation Raccoon City left in gamers’ mouths, Capcom ought to be chomping at the bit to pull all of the survival-horror attention back onto the upcoming sequel. Perhaps some story elements, a gameplay demo, who knows what exactly will be revealed, but expect an RE6 blowout.
-Official Reveal of Street Fighter X Tekken’s DLC Characters
This news won’t have the impact it should, as hackers with nothing better to do mined the SFxT disc and found files for these characters, but Capcom will finally lift the official curtain on the roster additions for Street Fighter X Tekken. It will be one trailer, maybe two, but not a lot of time will be spent on it, as it won’t be a shock to anyone.
–Dragon’s Dogma Last Assets
This is the last chance Capcom will have to share some information on their upcoming RPG, and I fully expect them to deliver some goods. The only thing is I have no idea what they’ll even show. The classes have been detailed, the story is fleshed out, the gameplay has been shown…perhaps more on the multiplayer component? It could even just be another sizzle trailer to keep interest up, but there will be Dragon’s Dogma at Captivate.
–DmC Information, Including Release Date
As if Capcom’s fans weren’t pissed off enough about Street Fighter x Tekken’s DLC, Captivate will give a reminder on the Devil May Cry reboot that irked them back at Tokyo Game Show. Trailers, screens, and fall release date will all be revealed for Dante’s next (first?) tussle with the minions of Hell, and fans will continue to not know how to react.
BRAND NEW TITLES
Fans have clamored for it. Yoshinori Ono himself has said he wants to make it. Now that Street Fighter x Tekken is done and over with, doesn’t it make perfect that Ono would move onto his most desired project? Capcom knows that the fans want this game, it’s requested in the Capcom Suggestion Box as much, if not more, than Mega Man’s inclusion in Marvel vs Capcom 3. I don’t care if it’s just a minor teaser like when MvC3 was officially revealed two years ago, just let us know it’s there. We’d appreciate it.
–Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 X
A forgotten fact about Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 is a quote by Ryota Niitsuma during an interview with 4Gamer.net back in August. From EventHubs.com’s translation:
“Initially, the plan was to include 58 characters in UMvC3 in order to surpass Marvel vs. Capcom 2, but due to scheduling this was an impossibility. For those of you keeping score at home, UMvC3 will have 50 characters in it, if you include Shuma and Jill as DLC. The translator’s impression from the article is that the higher-ups wanted this out by the end of the year (for Christmas), and Niitsuma and his team had to change their plans to accommodate this.”
So Capcom’s brass wanted UMvC3 out for the holiday season, while Niitsuma wanted more time to include eight more characters. You really think Niitsuma was just like “oh well, those eight characters can go fly a kite” and forgot about it? I sure don’t. It’ll be a DLC-only expansion a la Super Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition, it will add those eight characters he wanted, and it will be available for PS3, 360, AND Vita this summer. At least I hope so.
-Shadow of Rome 2
This might be more of a “I WISH THIS HAPPENS” than an actual prediction, but Shadow of Rome was a solid yet forgotten PS2 action/adventure game. Gladitorial free-for-alls mixed with political intrigue? Yes, please. In the city where the story takes place, in the shadow of Rome itself, Capcom will unveil Shadow of Rome 2, sending players back to the time of gladiators. A new protagonist would be a probability, as Agrippa from the first game is probably busy being a hero, but that wouldn’t bother me. I want this. Really bad. Please do it.
–New Mega Man Title
This is a necessity. After the garbage that the Blue Bomber has gone through in the last year, fans are ready to pull the plug. Mega Man NEEDS a resurgence worse than any of the other franchises Capcom has in its wheelhouse. Anyone who feels otherwise is just misinformed. For every fan that would argue for, say, Strider to get a new game, there’d be 100 Mega Man fans ready to trample him. Capcom, the fans are in a terrible time of need. They want their Mega Man back, and it’s up to you to make it happen. Do the right thing, Capcom. Do. The Right. Thing.
Now that Ron’s head exploded from that last one, I suppose I should wrap this up before more forlorn Capcom fans are reminded of their lost franchises. Make sure to hack the code of this article for more predictions so you don’t have to pay for them later*.
*I don’t feel I really have to write this, but just to be sure: there is no hidden predictions in the code. Don’t bother.
